Bugatti has introduced Brouillard, the first model from its new ultra-exclusive Programme Solitaire. This one-of-one masterpiece pays tribute to Ettore Bugatti’s favorite horse and marks a new chapter in the brand’s legacy of coachbuilt excellence and unmatched personalization.
“The Programme Solitaire allows us to authentically explore the unique visions of our clients, giving us more flexibility to explore different interpretations of long-established Bugatti design elements... Each precious Solitaire will be unique and peerless, offering a level of attention to detail not found in even the most exclusive automotive creations.”— Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti
A Tribute Rooted in Bugatti’s DNA
The name Brouillard honors Ettore’s beloved white thoroughbred, known for its elegance and strength. The horse could even open its own stable door, thanks to a mechanism designed by Ettore himself. This emotional connection is reflected in every curve and detail of the car.
The idea behind Programme Solitaire is grounded in Bugatti’s early coachbuilding roots, where custom bodies were crafted in close collaboration with coachbuilders. Jean Bugatti internalized this craft, leading to iconic creations like the Type 57 SC Atlantic, along with variants such as Galibier, Stelvio, Ventoux, and Atalante.
Engineering at Its Peak
Brouillard is built on Bugatti’s top-spec W16 platform, powered by a 1,600 PS quad-turbocharged engine. This is the ultimate evolution of a powertrain that has defined Bugatti performance for nearly 20 years.
“The bond between Ettore and Brouillard was deeply special... The aesthetics of this car abstain from sharp lines in favor of more reflection-based surfaces... enormous power and complexity, hidden by a veil of dignified simplicity.”— Frank Heyl, Bugatti Design Director
Its design uses classical proportions. The lower third of the car is shaded darker, helping the top two-thirds appear lighter and longer. The car looks low, dynamic, and bold, with wheels that visually dominate its stance.
“To make something look simple is actually incredibly complex... The design has to integrate all the technological aspects needed, all of the thermodynamics and aerodynamics of a 1,600hp hyper sports car, while also following a core ethos – that the Brouillard was imbued with dignity.”— Frank Heyl, Bugatti Design Director
Air intakes are functional and discreet. The ducktail rear wing balances performance with visual flow. The rear diffuser features a new exhaust layout that enhances surface functionality and closes the chapter on the W16’s evolution.
An Interior Made by Hand and Heart
Inside, Brouillard is a masterclass in material craft. Custom tartan fabrics from Paris meet green-tinted carbon fiber and precision-milled aluminum. A full glass roof lets in natural light, creating a cathedral-like atmosphere. The central spine flows through the entire car, visible from above.
Horse motifs are embroidered into the door panels and seat backs. The seats themselves are custom-formed to the owner’s specifications, finished in a unique patchwork leather layout. The aluminum gear shifter includes a miniature sculpture of Brouillard, enclosed in a glass insert.
Commissioned by a Collector of Bugatti Art
The client behind Brouillard collects more than cars. Their collection includes furniture by Carlo Bugatti and sculptures by Rembrandt Bugatti. The goal was clear—bring together the Bugatti family’s artistry in one singular object that honors Ettore’s emotional connection to his horse.
Limited to Two Creations Per Year
Brouillard will debut during Monterey Car Week as the first official creation under Programme Solitaire. Only two Solitaire models will be produced each year. Each will use Bugatti’s current powertrains and chassis but will feature completely reimagined bodywork and interiors, tailored to the vision of each client.
