Dotary is a visionary concept device designed by Hyeokin Kwon, Hanju Kim, and Chaelynn Park that redefines how visually impaired individuals access and experience books. Compact, intelligent, and inclusive, it aims to dismantle long-standing barriers in reading and knowledge accessibility.

Rethinking the Reading Experience

For many in the visually impaired community, reading remains a challenge. Braille books are scarce, bulky, and heavy to carry. Even more concerning, nearly 90 percent of visually impaired individuals struggle with braille illiteracy, limiting their access to knowledge and cultural participation. These barriers often lead to isolation from the broader world of ideas.

A Portable Library with AI at Its Core

Dotary transforms this reality by integrating AI-based braille conversion. The device enables real-time translation of digital text into braille, offering instant access to a wide range of books—whether in fiction, social sciences, or humanities.

Beyond braille, Dotary incorporates voice services for users who prefer or require audio support, making it accessible to those with limited or no braille skills. Its design is lightweight and portable, accented by high-visibility yellow LEDs for intuitive use anywhere, anytime.

Breaking Barriers, Building Connection

The value of Dotary goes beyond function. By addressing braille illiteracy and providing access to diverse content, it has the potential to reduce inequality in education and cultural life. It represents freedom, independence, and a sense of belonging for millions who have been left out of mainstream reading experiences.

Design That Serves Humanity

Dotary is not just a device but a reading revolution. It embodies how design can serve humanity by merging advanced technology with empathy. In doing so, it offers a glimpse into a more inclusive future where no one is excluded from the world of stories, ideas, and knowledge.
