Designed by Unknown, Untitled
Unknown, Untitled, the Paris based studio, was invited to design Envision’s first consumer facing product. Moving from an industrial background with energy storage systems to a more approachable design language, the Envision EV Charger redefines how charging devices can be both functional and welcoming.
From Industrial to Inviting
The design embraces Envision’s values of reliability and expertise while softening its visual identity for everyday use. Instead of feeling purely utilitarian, the charger introduces a professional yet approachable character, suitable for both public and private environments.
Ergonomics at the Core
Charging an EV involves handling a fixed cable and a heavy gun. To ease this, the charger’s handle was made larger and more inclusive, ensuring comfort across a wide range of hand sizes. This detail reinforces usability as a central design concern.
Interaction Made Subtle
A latch button, essential for releasing the charger from the car, was seamlessly integrated into the form. Always accessible under the thumb, it does not visually disrupt the overall design, achieving a balance between functionality and elegance.
Adaptive Interface
The charger’s front surface works as an adaptive interface. In a home garage it stays discreet and calm. In public settings it becomes more visible and expressive, always communicating the charging status clearly and confidently.
Form Meets Practicality
Every design detail reflects use and context. Rounded surfaces allow the cable to be wound comfortably. A recess in the front cover houses the outlet in public zones while doubling as a secure holder for the gun when installed at home. This dual functionality ensures the product works intuitively wherever it is placed.
A New Benchmark in EV Charging
The Envision EV Charger turns a highly technical tool into a refined consumer product. By combining ergonomic precision, adaptive interaction, and thoughtful form, Unknown, Untitled shows how design can bridge technology and everyday life.
