HYPTEC has revealed its boldest vision yet with the SSR BAJA Concept, a machine that bridges the worlds of motorsport, street culture, and California’s creative roots. Building on the legacy of the original SSR hypercar, one of the first all-electric hypercars from China, the BAJA represents more than performance engineering. It is a statement of identity.
A Rolling Piece of Culture
From its sticker-bomb graphics to its rebellious livery, the SSR BAJA feels like a love letter to Los Angeles street culture. Its design borrows visual cues from ski lift stickers, skate parks, and the walls of California’s back-alley bars, blending them into a visual identity that feels spontaneous and authentic.
The BAJA’s aesthetic also draws from racing history, echoing iconic liveries such as Martini Racing’s Porsche 917, Marlboro’s Formula 1 chevrons, and Alitalia’s rally stripes. For HYPTEC’s design team, who have hands-on experience with Formula E liveries, the result is both nostalgic and forward-looking, hinting at a future HYPTEC Motorsport identity.
American Classics, Reworked
In a playful twist, the BAJA reinvents classic American design elements. From a “Lucky Seven, Los Angeles” logo inspired by Raymond Loewy’s Lucky Strike pack to a clever “EVNONOIL” riff on Pennzoil, the car blends wit with heritage. Even the off-road “Daylighter” lamp cover has been reimagined, now featuring the BAJA’s cactus mascot, Mr. Pincho.
Built for the Desert
True to its purpose, the SSR BAJA has been engineered for sand and desert racing. Its clean, simplified lines emphasize function over excess. Precision aero details and its aggressive stance highlight its motorsport DNA, while durability and agility define every proportion.
The vivid color palette of orange tones, gradients shifting from pink to purple, and accents transitioning into blue and green extends into the cabin. Inside, race seats wrapped in Mexican serape-inspired fabrics connect the concept to California and Baja’s multicultural spirit.
Performance with Character
The cockpit stays true to the SSR philosophy: functional, minimal, and premium. A dark upper section contrasts with a lighter lower tub, using carbon fiber and Alcantara for race-ready toughness.
At its core is HYPTEC’s CAGE exoskeleton, a bold safety and structural system stripped down to essentials. Beyond engineering, cultural details such as serape patterns, artisanal textures, and subtle flourishes tie the BAJA to the landscapes and traditions of Baja California.
HYPTEC’s Vision
For HYPTEC, the SSR BAJA is more than a concept car. It is an exploration of how performance, culture, and design history can merge into a single machine. Just as the original SSR hypercar established the brand’s global identity, the BAJA expands it, transforming racing heritage into rolling art.
