Hyundai Motor has introduced Concept THREE, the first compact EV concept under the IONIQ sub-brand, at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The debut highlights Hyundai’s return to Europe’s largest mobility event after four years and underlines the company’s ambition to expand in the European compact EV market.
Commitment to Electrification
Concept THREE marks an important step in Hyundai Motor’s electrification journey. The European market is witnessing strong demand for compact electric vehicles, influenced by urbanization, stricter environmental regulations, and the need for space-efficient mobility. With this debut, Hyundai demonstrates its intent to deliver vehicles that balance technology with emotional appeal.
Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, noted that Concept THREE embodies the brand’s vision of mobility that is practical, accessible, and emotionally resonant.
Design Highlights
Art of Steel Language: Inspired by Hyundai’s advanced steel technologies, this design approach combines strength with flexibility to create sculptural forms and precise lines.
Aero Hatch Profile: The body shape integrates aerodynamic efficiency with a distinctive vertical tailgate, enhancing urban versatility.
Parametric Pixel Lighting: Expressive pixel gradients on the front and rear add depth and rhythm to the vehicle’s appearance.
Material-Driven Surfaces: An anodised finish, lemon-tinted glass, and matching wheels connect the exterior with an interior defined by soft yellow and grey tones.
Interior Concept: The cabin offers an intuitive and calming environment through soft volumes and a user-focused layout. Modular “Bring Your Own Lifestyle” widgets allow personalisation, while sustainable materials such as ocean waste textiles, recycled wool, and aluminium foam reinforce Hyundai’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Playful Details: Interactive design elements, including the symbolic character “Mr. Pix,” create moments of curiosity and joy.
Hyundai at IAA Mobility 2025
Hyundai’s presence at IAA Mobility 2025 is centered on a 58-meter-wide, 7-meter-tall booth in Munich’s city center. The design of the booth is inspired by the Parametric Pixel, a signature feature of Hyundai vehicles.
Key attractions include the global unveiling of Concept THREE, design exhibitions that translate elements of the concept into sculptural and furniture pieces, and a dedicated display for Hyundai AddGear modular accessories. Hyundai is also offering visitors the opportunity to test drive nine models, including the KONA Electric, IONIQ 5, IONIQ 9, and INSTER Cross.

Strategic Role of Europe
Europe plays a central role in Hyundai Motor’s electrification strategy. Nearly 80 percent of Hyundai vehicles sold in Europe are locally produced, allowing the brand to address regional needs effectively. The roadmap includes providing an electrified version of every model in Europe by 2027, launching 21 EV models globally by 2030, and advancing hydrogen fuel cell technology. Efforts are also being made to transition production facilities to renewable energy.
Compact EVs such as Concept THREE are seen as essential in addressing the challenges of urban mobility while aligning with Europe’s environmental goals.
