Lexus has unveiled the LS Coupe Concept, a study that redefines what the brand’s flagship stands for in the electric and autonomous era. Introduced at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, the concept blends the proportions of a coupe with the versatility of a crossover—signalling Lexus’ evolving understanding of luxury mobility.
The LS name, long associated with the traditional sedan, here becomes a platform for experimentation. This concept is not about following lineage, but about reinterpreting legacy through future design language.
Design Overview
The LS Coupe Concept introduces a sleek, fastback silhouette with rear-hinged doors and a long, sculpted roofline. Its stance feels powerful yet minimal, with Lexus’ signature lighting elements and precision surfacing creating a sense of calm strength.
The rear features a slide-out cargo platform, replacing the conventional trunk with a more intuitive, horizontal storage surface—a detail that connects function with form. Inside, a flat floor architecture and panoramic glass roof enhance spatial openness, reinforcing the idea of a mobile lounge rather than a car interior.
Inside the Future of Luxury
The cabin continues Lexus’ focus on craft and contrast. A single color-accented driver seat sits beside neutral passenger seating, framed by bamboo detailing and digital interfaces. The balance of analog warmth and high-tech minimalism reflects Lexus’ modern luxury direction: technology that disappears into craftsmanship.
Every touchpoint is intentional inviting designers to consider how traditional luxury cues can evolve in compact, electrified forms.
Luxury Beyond Segments
Though called a “Coupe,” the vehicle challenges conventional categories. Its proportions blend sedan, SUV, and grand tourer characteristics, suggesting that future luxury mobility may not be defined by body type but by experience.
The LS Coupe Concept pushes the question: what defines a flagship in a world without drivers?
NIWWRD Perspective
For the design community, the LS Coupe Concept represents:
Legacy as platform: using an iconic nameplate to explore new ideas.
Function as form: slide-out rear deck rethinking usability and design purpose.
Material dialogue: integrating natural and digital textures to shape ambience.
Spatial innovation: merging mobility, comfort, and lifestyle in one experience.
The concept signals a shift toward design unbound by tradition, where technology, space, and luxury converge into a new visual language.
