Mercedes-Benz steps into a new era of design with the Vision Iconic, a show car that bridges the brand’s rich heritage with its vision for the future. Revealed in Stuttgart and Shanghai, the Vision Iconic embodies the essence of timeless elegance, advanced technology, and the art of automotive emotion. It is both a sculpture and a statement, redefining what the next generation of luxury mobility can be.
A Show Car That Connects Past and Future
The Vision Iconic draws inspiration from the golden age of automotive design, merging it with futuristic innovation. Its proportions, long hood, flowing lines, and Art Deco influences recall the beauty of the 1930s, while its technology points toward tomorrow.
At the heart of the design is a reimagined Mercedes-Benz grille, now known as the Iconic Grille. Inspired by classics like the W108, W111, and 600 Pullman, it features a wide chrome frame, a smoked-glass lattice, and contour lighting. It is a bold, upright signature that radiates presence and gives the car a unique identity in the electric age.
Light as Emotion
Mercedes-Benz continues to explore how light can shape emotional connection. On the Vision Iconic, the illuminated three-pointed star and animated grille lighting sequences express both intelligence and prestige. The sleek black paint finish and slender headlights accentuate the sculpture-like form, reinforcing the car’s quiet power and elegance.
The Interior: Hyper-Analogue Luxury
Inside, the Vision Iconic reveals a world of hyper-analogue design, where craftsmanship meets cutting-edge digitality. Inspired by Art Deco interiors, the cabin combines deep blue velvet seating, brass detailing, and exquisite materials such as mother-of-pearl inlays and straw marquetry flooring.
At its center sits the “Zeppelin”, a floating glass structure that merges analog watchmaking cues with digital instruments. The animation that greets the driver feels cinematic yet personal. It is not just an interior; it is a stage for beauty and innovation.
The interior’s lounge-like layout reflects the freedom of automated driving, where comfort and experience take precedence over control. Passengers can relax, socialize, or simply enjoy the journey in quiet sophistication.
Solar Paint and Neuromorphic Computing
Beyond its beauty, the Vision Iconic is a showcase of forward-thinking technology. The car features an experimental solar paint, a wafer-thin photovoltaic coating that generates energy from sunlight, potentially extending driving range by up to 12,000 kilometers a year under ideal conditions.
Underneath, neuromorphic computing drives its intelligence. By mimicking the human brain’s neural processes, this architecture allows AI functions to operate with far greater efficiency, reducing energy use by up to 90% compared to current systems.
Level 4 Autonomous Driving and Steer-by-Wire
The Vision Iconic previews Level 4 automated driving, giving occupants the freedom to rest, stream, or simply enjoy the ambient experience while the vehicle drives itself. Complementing this is a steer-by-wire system, which replaces mechanical steering with electronic precision. It enhances agility, improves maneuverability, and gives designers more freedom to shape the cabin’s architecture.

Beyond the Car: The Capsule Collection
To accompany the Vision Iconic, Mercedes-Benz unveiled an exclusive capsule collection of six men’s and women’s outfits. The garments echo the car’s palette, deep blues, silver-gold tones, and geometric motifs, translating the vehicle’s Art Deco inspiration into wearable design. The collection premiered during Shanghai Fashion Week, highlighting Mercedes-Benz’s growing dialogue between design, luxury, and culture.
The New Iconic Era
The Vision Iconic is not just a concept car; it is a design philosophy. It introduces Mercedes-Benz’s New Iconic Era, where beauty and technology coexist in perfect balance. This philosophy is also captured in the ICONIC DESIGN Book, an official publication by the Mercedes-Benz design team that explores how heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation shape the brand’s new identity.
A Sculpture in Motion
As Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener explains, “Our Vision Iconic is more than just an automobile. It is a sculpture in motion, a homage to timeless elegance, and a statement for the future.”
With the Vision Iconic, Mercedes-Benz reminds the world that while technology defines progress, design defines legacy.
