At Salone del Mobile 2025 in Milan, Royal Enfield’s Flying Flea division unveiled Motototem, a collaborative work with Italian-born, Los Angeles-based artist Mattia Biagi. Presented as part of Milan Design Week, the project transformed the electric Flying Flea FF.C6 into an artistic statement that blurs the line between motorcycle and sculpture.
Material Storytelling
Biagi reinterpreted the FF.C6 using natural and symbolic materials, turning technical components into expressive surfaces. The fuel tank was carved from travertine, evoking the parachute heritage of the original wartime Flying Flea. Bronze handlebars and footpegs, marked with the artist’s fingerprints, introduced a human signature into the machine. Hand-blown glass replaced the lighting elements, offering fragility in contrast to the robust aluminium frame.
The mudguards were layered with resin-cast leaves, signifying growth and renewal, while the seat was crafted from solid walnut, both functional and sculptural. Even the tyres carried motifs of swallows, representing loyalty and return. Each choice of material told a story, reinforcing the idea that the motorcycle is not only a tool of mobility but also an object of cultural memory.
Function Beneath the Form
Although reshaped as art, the FF.C6 retained its electric drivetrain, intelligent systems and Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered connectivity. The project demonstrated that advanced engineering can remain intact while allowing the motorcycle to become a canvas for artistic interpretation.
Global Platform
Motototem made its debut at Milan Design Week 2025 and will travel internationally as part of an exhibition programme. For Flying Flea, it marks an important step in presenting itself not only as a builder of electric motorcycles but also as a brand that engages with design, sustainability and creative culture.
