The Sound of Porsche reimagines how we perceive and experience the sound of vehicles in the electric era. Sound has always played a vital role in creating emotional connections with cars — from the deep resonance of an engine to the solid click of a closing door. At Porsche, these details are carefully tuned to perfection. But as electric mobility transforms automotive design, the familiar sounds of performance begin to disappear.
This project explores how to rebuild that emotional bond without relying on combustion noise. Drawing inspiration from natural instruments like the pipe organ and the tuning fork, The Sound of Porsche uses airflow as a musical element. By channeling wind through precise openings in the vehicle’s body, different pitches and harmonies are generated through variations in material, length, and speed.
Inside the cabin, these harmonies resonate through the structure of the car, turning the vehicle itself into an instrument. The result is an authentic, evolving sound experience — one that connects the driver to motion, form, and performance through natural acoustics rather than artificial simulation.
Developed during Dylan Horn’s six-month internship with the Porsche Exterior Design team in Weissach, this project reflects his dual passion for design and music. The Sound of Porsche proposes a new sensory dimension for electric vehicles, one that redefines emotion, character, and identity through sound.
