Toyota has officially revealed the new model in its iconic off-road series, the Land Cruiser FJ. The vehicle is planned for launch in Japan around mid-2026 and represents a renewed interpretation of Toyota’s core idea of mobility that works everywhere.
Continuing a 70-Year Legacy
The Land Cruiser began in 1951 as the Toyota BJ, the first vehicle to climb to the sixth station of Mount Fuji. Since then, it has remained a symbol of safety, durability, and trust in extreme environments. By August 2025, global sales across all Land Cruiser models, including the Lexus LX and GX, reached over 12.15 million units in more than 190 countries.

The FJ’s Position in the Land Cruiser Line
Toyota’s Land Cruiser range currently includes three main types:
The Station Wagon line, represented by the 300 Series, offering the latest technology and comfort.
The Heavy-Duty line, the 70 Series, built for professional and demanding use.
The Core Land Cruiser, the 250 Series launched in 2024, created as a practical and lifestyle-oriented SUV.
The new FJ adds a fourth dimension to this lineup. It is designed to bring freedom, joy, and a sense of adventure to everyday use while keeping Toyota’s traditional strengths of reliability, toughness, and off-road performance.
Key Highlights
1. Design and Package
The FJ keeps the boxy and compact profile that defines the Land Cruiser family. The square body and upright cabin improve visibility, while the compact size increases practicality in urban and outdoor settings. Its rectangular form features a “dice motif” with slightly rounded edges, flared fenders, and bold bumpers. Both front and rear bumpers are segmented and removable, which makes repairs and customization easier.Inside, the horizontal dashboard layout improves visibility and ergonomics. All controls are grouped logically, and Toyota Safety Sense is included as standard.
2. Off-Road Capability and Handling
The FJ uses a platform refined through Toyota’s IMV series. It delivers high ground clearance, a large approach angle, and wheel articulation similar to the 70 Series. Its wheelbase is 270 mm shorter than the 250 Series, resulting in a turning radius of about 5.5 meters. This allows smoother maneuvering in tight spaces or rough terrain. The body has also been reinforced for improved rigidity and on-road stability.
3. Customization and Accessories
Toyota has designed the FJ for owners who enjoy modifying their vehicles. Optional features include round headlights inspired by classic Land Cruisers, MOLLE panels for outdoor gear, and other modular attachments. Toyota also previewed a companion vehicle called the Land Hopper, a compact electric personal mobility device built for outdoor exploration.
