The 2026 Design Weeks Index

The global design calendar is more than a schedule of exhibitions. It reflects where ideas are introduced, conversations begin, and the future of design takes shape. From established events in Europe to rapidly growing platforms across Asia and the Middle East, each design week brings together designers, brands, educators, researchers, and industry leaders. These gatherings showcase new products, emerging talent, and experimental thinking while creating opportunities for collaboration across disciplines. Together, they reveal how design is exhibited, discussed, and distributed, shaping the global creative landscape year after year.

1983 Suzuki Alto 800 / Maruti 800

Introduced in 1982 and launched in India as the Maruti 800 in 1983, the Suzuki Alto 800 transformed personal mobility. Its compact, boxy design prioritised space, visibility and practicality over ornamentation. Lightweight engineering and an efficient 796 cc engine made it affordable, reliable and economical to own. More than just a small car, it became the first car for millions of families across Asia. Its clean hatchback proportions established a new benchmark for entry-level automotive design. The Alto 800 proved that simple, functional design could also carry aspiration and identity. Its influence continues to be seen in compact cars decades later.

Info

NIWWRD records the ideas, people, mobility, and products that shape contemporary design.

Founded in 2017, NIWWRD is an independent design media company dedicated to recording contemporary design through digital and print publishing.

We believe that design is more than the objects we use. It is a record of how people think, solve problems, respond to technology, and shape everyday life. Every product reflects a series of decisions - technical, cultural, environmental, and human - that deserve to be understood as much as the finished object itself.

Much of today's design conversation is driven by speed. Products are announced, shared, and forgotten within days. While staying informed matters, we believe there is equal value in slowing down - asking why a product was designed the way it was, understanding the process behind it, and placing it within a broader context.

That perspective shapes everything we publish.

Across articles, interviews, reviews, films, and print publications, NIWWRD examines the people, ideas, and decisions behind contemporary design. Our editorial focus spans automotive, industrial, product, mobility, and emerging design disciplines, with an emphasis on work that contributes meaningfully to the ongoing story of design.

As an independent publication, we see our role as more than covering new products. We aim to create a lasting editorial record of the designs, designers, and ideas that define our time.
